Peluuri – Gambling helpline
Peluuri is a national helpline for problem gamblers, their family and friends concerned or affected by problem gambling. The service is open every weekday from noon to 6 pm. The helpline number 0800 100 101 is toll free. Peluuri Helpline offers service primarily in Finnish.
Peluuri started on 1 September 2004 as a pilot project for the period between 1 September 2004 and 31 May 2005. After the pilot, the service was made permanent.
Peluuri helpline provides referral to services for problem gamblers, and information and material about problem gambling as well as conversational support and advice to help the callers cope with their aggravated situation. Our target groups are problem gamblers, as well as their relatives and friends.
You can call Peluuri anonymously and toll free. The service is available on working days from noon to 6 pm.
Peluuri Helpline’s staff consists of nine trained professionals: a Developement Manager and a Coordinator working full time and five part-time counsellors. In addition, Peluuri has two therapists working in the self help programme Peli poikki.
The service is provided by two Finnish associations: the A-Clinic Foundation and Sininauhaliitto - The Finnish Blue Ribbon. They are both non-profit organizations for improving social welfare.
Peluuri Helpline is funded by the Finnish state-licensed gaming organizations: Fintoto Oy/Horse Betting company, RAY/The Finnish Slot Machine Association and Veikkaus Oy/The Finnish National Lottery.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health carried out an evaluation of the Helpline in April 2005.
